about

The sixth track of the 'Black Lives Matter' project - a collaboration between Norwich-based trumpeter Chris Dowding and artist Laure Van Minden.

The first BLM track to include beats, I wanted to reflect the innocence of a naked Black man running through the streets, experiencing mental health difficulties, who is eventually suffocated with a white "spit hood". I think this is also reflected in the light blue colours in Laure's drawing for this track.

I switched to muted and looped cornet for this track...

Chris:

"I think it’s interesting how the pairing of tracks are coming out - like, in some ways I think the Trayvon cover is more child-like, like the Daniel Prude track, but maybe together they make more than the sums of the parts, as you’re saying..."

Laure:

"Daniel Prude's track is certainly impactful."
