The second track of 'Black Lives Matters' - a collaboration between Norwich-based trumpeter Chris Dowding and artist Laure Van Minden.

For this project, I decided to use all the different approaches to looping that I've developed recently, so this includes a looping pedal and also Ableton, as you'll hear on this track. Breonna Taylor's name blossoms into a cloud that simultaneously disguises and embellishes her name melody. I've also started using distortion pedals with trumpet recently.

Each month we'll share some of our process here...

Laure:

"I really liked the burst of energy provided by your [Breonna Taylor] piece and hope the drawings somehow convey the underlying emotions... I like how the "chorus" or her played name is central to the piece. A beautiful piece again Chris which I didn't allow myself to listen to until I was actually drawing...just to prevent any pre-visualisation."

Chris:

"... really beautiful, and kind of reminds me of her face... I like the curls in photo and drawing - I think it’s quite poignant"
