about

The eighteenth track of 'Black Lives Matter' - a collaboration between Norwich-based trumpeter Chris Dowding and artist Laure Van Minden.

'Atatiana Jefferson' features the first appearance of piccolo trumpet in the project (at least used as a pitched instrument), processed with effects. In the early morning, a policeman shows up. The name melody is a distorted whisper in the distance.

Her eight-year-old nephew looks on, symbolised by the innocence of a flugelhorn with harmoniser...

Chris:

"I especially like the second [of Laure's drawings] too - it kind of almost reminds me of an ultrasound - a baby in a womb..."

Laure:

"I felt again drawing one single line... a circle, the circle / cyclic life journey. The distressed notes in the track are reflected in the wavy parts. I particularly like this one. Both drawings were made with eyes closed. I loved being immersed in the sounds."
