about

The fifteenth track of 'Black Lives Matter' - a collaboration between Norwich-based trumpeter Chris Dowding and artist Laure Van Minden.

The beginning of the track again reflects the innocence of the victim. Birdsong is combined in a field recorded listening of the name melody. This shows some of the process of making these tracks.

We hope to do one more live drawing session before the end of the project. Watch this space..!

Laure:

"As always, I am struck by the power of the process... It started with a colour catcher sheet from the washing machine (the pink paper) I kept as I liked the colour...and decided to use it as it reminded me of childhood and how little girls like Aiyana liked princesses. I knew I wanted to include used matches (that I kept just in case) to symbolise / mark time, one for each year of her life. "

Laure:

"As I played with the papers, it dawned on me that this pink sheet was a blanket, her blanket, under which she was sleeping when she was killed...I used the black carbon paper to create all the lines while listening to the track...it is as if I could hear her breathe gently in her sleep through the soothing trumpet notes at one point...I used part of the carbon paper as it spoke volumes to me how her bed became her coffin..."
